From the Inside

from Six Songs from the Inside by The Usual

/

about

This song was conceived by James while driving to Street Level Studios on a perfect Cape Town summer evening. The M3 rises from the leafy southern suburbs up over the foot of Table Mountain where the city bowl and and endless view of the Atlantic is announced. Looking across this vista you can see clearly, but in the distance Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela sacrificed most of the 27 years of his life.

When he walked out a free man, looking to unite all South Africans and to heal the wounds of Apartheid through conciliation rather than revenge.

South Africa could so easily have 'gone the other way' into civil war had it not been for Madiba's grace.

This deeply affected the world. This song is a tribute and a thank you.
