If I gave you my Heart

from Six Songs from the Inside by The Usual

/

about

Tom Fox came up with the chorus and jammed it out with James and the rest of the band during one of their weekly Tuesday night sessions at Street Level Studios in Long Street, Cape Town. These sessions were often hilarious and chaotic. The ever-patient Gravel always had his 8-track 1/4 inch tape running....mostly re-using tape containing old commercials and jingles found lying in a cupboard when moving in to this cavernous and perfectly treated sound studio - designed in the 70's to accommodate full orchestras. Those were the days of the epic 'tobacco & alcohol' commercials.

A simple a jaunty reggae skank designed to move the dancefloor along at gigs. Featuring the ever-awesome Tom's soulful, funky and sometimes - tearing guitar hooks.

lyrics

If I gave you my heart
It would soon be over
Right from the start
Its better to be free

I could never leave you
That would break my heart in two
It's better to forget you
At least the way I'm thinking of you
You've got to believe me, believe me when I say this things to ou
It's better this way

If I gave you my heart
It would soon be over
Right from the start
Its better to be free

Walking down a side street
things aren't what they used to be
My imagination?
Or was it in the way you looked at me?
If only I could tell you how you mean the world to me, I know
It's better this way

If I gave you my heart
It would soon be over
Right from the start
Its better to be free

If I gave you my heart
It would soon be over
Right from the start
Its better to be free
