about

I think this was the first song I wrote for The Usual's last album "Born in a storm"

We had a standing arrangement on Tuesday nights at Street Level Studios in Cape Town where we'd do all the stuff bands did. And some work. We had an old 1/2 inch 16 track recorder and a bunch of old tape - spliced and scruffed - which we hammered and cobbled demos like this into.

We subsequently got 'better recordings' but to me this is the definitive performance of the song. A band in its prime without too much of a care for the world outside it's own universe.

lyrics

When I look into your eyes (Stewart)

Show me the heavens, roll back the sky
Bring down all the angels to guide me
‘cause I need direction through these uncharted seas I sail alone
In the sleepless hours of storm

I look into your eyes
The universes explodes
and it seems our two worlds are one
When I look into your eyes
I see stars collide
And the light from the sky falls down

I sail your ocean, my trusted sea
Let your waves crash upon my shore
I have felt the ebb and flow and the rise and the fall of your tide
So now I always surrender to the feeling that I have inside

Everytime I look into your eyes
The universes explodes
and it seems our two worlds are one
When I look into your eyes
I see stars collide
And the light from the sky falls down

I shield my eyes from this haze – as the evening falls
Sun-struck gold chasing these shadows - as the evening falls

I look into your eyes
The universes explodes
and it seems our two worlds are one
When I look into your eyes
I see stars collide
And the light from the sky falls down

The universe explodes
And stars collide
Light falls down when I look into your eyes

I look into your eyes
I look into your eyes
I look into your eyes
